Group Mission

For our groups mentor text we searched on the computers for a while until a thought came to mind, Why not a book from Mark Twain? So we went up and down the Atkins Library looking for a book by Mark Twain that was 3 floors above us in a completely different area.

We managed to find The Adventures of Tom Sawyer upstairs. This was chosen as our mentor text because it was a unique approach to traditional writing styles. It was written the way it was verbally spoken rather than corrected and cleared up for proper grammars sake.

We all sat down in the room for a good amount of time to write about the mentor text we selected. 

After we finished writing we pondered our thoughts, why did we do this? What was the purpose of documenting our search for a book? I came up with an answer. Sometimes the trip to your destination is the fun part.

Chicks Dig Giant Robots

I just love Japan, so I'm going to write more about it! In Japan you can find tons of strange, large, or epic things. There are candy lunch boxes, giant and small humanoid robots, and garbage men dresses as samurais for tourist. But my favorite is the giant robot because it's a Gundam. So what is a Gundam you say? Well Wikipedia can explain better than me but it's a popular animated show in Japan about Mobile Suits that revolutionized war, it's set in a realistic feel as if giant robots were a viable option for combat.

Best summer of my life.

Nothing makes you more excited that a vacation, but when you get a expense free trip across the world how do you think you will react? My reaction was beyond excited. On the last month of high school my Japanese teacher gave us a once in a life-time opportunity, a free trip to Japan, compliments of the Kizuna Foundation. We spent our days visiting sites and learning about the new and old Japanese cultures and living like a real Japanese student (but a little more popular) with our host siblings. My host brother was Kishikawa Shun (on the left), he was an athletic teen about my age with a passion for basketball and an interest in American culture. Even though we were separated by a language barrier, we got along very well. When it was time for us to leave our host families, no one had dry eyes. We really didn't want to leave our brothers and sisters, one of then started running after the bus to wave good bye. Even when we are half way around the world, we share a bond that is still going strong.

Justice!

In my daybook I wrote about a certain tool. These are real steel batarangs, the true weapons of justice, owned by the legend himself, Batman. I've been watching Batman: The Animated Series since I've been able to use the remote. With the excellent story behind each episode and vivid art and animation, this show was far beyond it's time. The show also got me into the comic books that made me like reading during my free time.

Those Memories of the Past

I choose this day book entry because it shows some of my most memorable moments during my senior year at South Mecklenburg High School. Let me expand on this writing.
 
Angie was my friend's step sister, she told Angie great things about me, and after that she was interest in the odd human being known as Chris aka the Asian. At first we were attached to each other. We would sneak out at night to sit at the pond we know as "Shadowlake". After about 3 months she mentioned she was moving out of the neighborhood, far far away... We tried to make it work out but we drifted apart gradually. Before I knew it, our relationship was over. I was depressed and confused for about a whole month, but my friends comforted me. At the end of the school year I was a lot better and calmer. What really made me happy was our expense free trip to Japan, I got to visit the land of the rising sun with some of my friends in Japanese class for 2 weeks! It was a fun and emotional trip, especially when we had to leave our host brothers and host sisters. When we got back to NC my friend who went to Japan with us was throwing a party for the people who went to Japan. There I met his sister at the pool party (awesome pool). I was captivated by her charms and personality, reminds me of... me! I ended up staying at their house for another day thanks to my friend. We watched zombie movies while I held his sister in my arms. At the end of the movie, she turned towards me and I turned towards her then my tongue ended up in her mouth. I will always remember August 6th 2012.

I'm Batman

On the first day of class we did writing in our day book, my first writing describes me very clearly… Well as clear as I can get.

Comics, movies, fictional works based around heroes have always given me the best quotes that seem realistically feasible even though a man in a bat suit seems unfeasible. I’ve always been a perspective viewer, questioning what is right and wrong, good or bad. I see things in yin yang vision, without one the other cannot exist. Batman is a role model for me and many others, he’s a superhero with no powers, but with his hard work and determination he is just as strong as his companions.
